Open Water Swimming

Open water Swimming
Has a long and colourful history dating back as far as 36BC, when the Japanese organised the first open water races. The Romans held high-profile races in the Tiber, when thousands would crowd along the banks to watch and cheer. Although marathon races had been held for over a hundred years it was not until 1986 that FINA, swimming’s world governing body, officially recognised the event again and added it to the international competition calendar. Our lake is available for Open Water Swimming training at specified session times. For safety, swimming is allowable only in pairs or if by yourself, a tow float must be used, wetsuits and swimcaps must be worn. Participants must be able to swim at least 100mts and be comfortable in open water . We have showers and changing but you will need slaps to walk to the waters edge.
The Swim Course .The lake has a triangular, marked course, swimming anti clockwise, marks are set at approx 1.2mts of depth. Length of course is approximately 650 mts.
Showers and changing rooms and toilets are available in main building, swimmers must swim with a partner or if by yourself use a tow float and wear wetsuits and swim caps.
